The Chicago Mayor’s Youth Commission is a City of Chicago advisory body made up of 40 teens (ages 14-19) from Chicago. These Youth Commissioners advise the Mayor and City staff on issues that impact Chicago’s young people. Youth Commissioners help collaborate with policy-makers, organize youth-centered events, and support youth outreach and communications campaigns to ensure youth are aware of and engaged in a variety of City initiatives. The current cohort of Youth Commissioners represent neighborhoods and schools across the city. The class is helping develop a youth-focused vision and agenda for the Mayor’s administration while becoming a key voice in the City’s policy efforts. The Chicago MYC is made up of four different working groups, in which each MYC member collaborates to bring light to issues and help bring initiatives to each working group topic. The working group focuses on the issues of public safety, education, public health, and neighborhood development.
