Modge Podge Poetry
Poetry is literary freedom. It liberates and speaks. Plutarch, the ancient Greek historian and philosopher said, “painting is silent poetry, and poetry is painting that speaks.” In an effort to honor the namesake of Henry Williams Love Foundation, who loved both poetry and mixed-medium artwork, the makers workshop, Modge Podge Poetry was created. The Modge Podge Poetry workshop is empowerment, introspection, and creative expression all wrapped into an art project that participants can take home with them.
During this workshop, a theme is chosen and participants are taught a form of poetry. Participants then create a poem or a line of poetry to reflect that theme and style of poetry, with support from the workshop facilitators. Each participant then transforms their poem into an art project piece on an 8x10 inch canvas using mixed-medium supplies such as paint, markers, pencil, chalk, fabric, textiles, magazine and newspaper clippings, and other craft materials. The art piece is sealed with Mod Podge and dried. This is a 90-minute workshop set to music to inspire creativity and increase engagement.
The goals of this workshop is to:
1. Increase exposure to different styles of poetry
2. Increase appreciation of different styles of poetry
3. Increase creative expression and writing
4. Inspire a pathway to poetry and other art forms
